Can you afford £300?

May 31, 2005

I can’t, yet thats what I might have to pay for an ID card if the LSE have got their facts right, and they are the LSE after all…

…£300 is a totally outrageous sum to expect the average joe in the street to come up with.

It beggers belief that the government honestly (i know, two words that don’t often go together…) think they will get away with this by saying that it’s in the Interests of National Security and that if you’ve got nothing to hide whats the problem?

Well I dont have anything to hide, but I sure as hell am not going to pay 300 quid to prove it.

The PM Speaks

May 30, 2005

Apparantly our beloved leader spoke out against hasty EU reforms, and a nice chap called ‘Curious Hamster’ at ‘A Big Stick and a Small Carrot’ had these observations to make.

I couldn’t have put it better myself…

Identity Crisis

May 24, 2005

Apparantly 57% of people surveyed said they saw ID cards as the best way to protect themselves against identity theft.

How little they understand… :(

Is holding a peice of plastic in your hand going to stop Ms. Benefit Fraud from getting her hands on your pension? No.

Is paying the UK Govt up-to £85 going to stop Mr. Criminal from forging or stealing your identity? No.

Would Mr. Terrorist have problems getting hold of and using a fake (or real) ID card? Would Mr. Terrorist be put off from commiting atrocities without an ID card? Did say, Mr. Terorista from Spain have any problems commiting the Madrid Bombings in a country that already has ID cards? No. No. No.

Will the powers that be guarantee that the information held by them about you will not be sold on, given away to, leaked, lost or stolen by any authority, organisation, corporation, or individual that does not have a right to that information. Of course not.

This really hasn’t been thought through very well, at least, not by our glorious leaders…

…or maybe it has, maybe they know exactly what they are going to be able to do with all that loverly data.

If you are at all concerned by the introduction of compulsory Identity Cards in the UK, please sign the petition at http://www.no2id-petition.net/.

Thank-you.

Disney does Narnia

I seem to remember hearing a rumour of this a few months back and thinking, OMG! NOOOOOOOOOO!

But they’ve released a trailer, visually it looks stunning, think LOTR, the story I’m sure you already know - so we wont go there ;-) - and the acting? well hard to tell from the clip, but the kids (peter, susan, edmund & lucy) even sound English! (maybe…).

So perhaps Disney have done a half decent job?

Firefox Bookmarks

May 20, 2005

What the hell is this about?
ADD_DATE="1115124921" LAST_MODIFIED="1115205994" ID="rdf:#$2SmZE3"

thats the kind of non-standard garbage that Firefox creates when you export your bookmark file, admitedly its doctype is set as a ‘NETSCAPE-Bookmark-file-1′, but surely to god there could be an option to export a nice xhtml compliant list?

Please…?

I’m more goat than sheep

The above is what I said a few weeks ago when I decided to stop writing a blog, well I still stand by that, but this old goat still has plenty to babble on about and this will continue to be the place where I do it.
